Online Discussion of vocabulary
There is more about learning to fly a glider than just driving the aircraft. You will need to learn about aerodynamics, weather, federal aviation flight rules, and flight safety. You will also have to learn about soaring to high altitudes, and long distances in cross country flights. This course is the first step and should give you a solid foundation to becoming a proficient glider pilot.
Use this post to discuss new terms related to gliding. Post your responses in the comments and respond to other posts.

1. Rudder – The rudder is the small moving section at the rear of the stabilizer that is attached to the fixed sections by hinges this controls rotation of aircraft left to right.
2. aero tow hook – The aerotow hook (nose hook) is located in front of the nose wheel used for launching glider
3. Fuselage – The fuselage is the body of the airplane
4. perspex surface – acrylic glass as a substitute for normal glass a highly durable surface
5. Cantilever – The cantilever wing structure is the strongest. It is attached directly to the fuselage without any external, stress-bearing structures.
6. monocoque structure – is a construction technique that supports structural load by using an object’s exterior, as opposed to using an internal frame or truss that is then covered with a non-load-bearing skin or coachwork.
Wow! I found all this information about the different names of the part of an aircraft/glider fascinating! One does not really think about all these gadgets/components… I just want to FLY!!!!! However, thanks to all the educational information on this course, I now have learned aircraft component terminology (thanks Mckinley! Yahhhhh Me!!). I look forward to flying with you and the rest of the class;) No, seriously if I had the time I would defiantly, sign up for class!
Great job on the definitions Noemi, you have the first requirement for soaring – that is a genuine interest int he sport.

Glider /aircraft Vocabulary Project
1. Stabilizer – these are the fins of an aircraft that makes it fly straight – also called a tail.
Mr. Johnson now that I have had the opportunity to investigate and learn about the different parts of an aircraft, I am looking forward to putting all this knowledge in assisting me as a future pilot!
2. Fuselage – The fuselage is the body of the airplane
3. Perspex surface – acrylic glass as a substitute for normal glass a highly durable surface
4. Cantilever – The cantilever wing structure is the strongest. It is attached directly to the fuselage without any external, stress-bearing structures.
5. Aero tow hook – The aero tow hook (nose hook) is located in front of the nose wheel used for launching glider
6. Control linkages – consist of levers, joints, cables and other moving parts that allow movement of a control surface, like ailerons, elevator or rudder.
7. C.G. hook – The winch-launching hook (C.G. hook with automatic release) is located in front of the main wheel on the right hand side of the fuselage.
Your syllables and the required information for this session was very “student” friendly. I must admit I was a little hesitant to learn about aircrafts and their components. However, after reviewing your blog and syllabus I realized I was drowning in a cup of water
Thank you Aila!
That is what I hope to accomplish with this online discussion. I want students to get interested in becoming a glider pilot and to ask more questions.
Gliding is a great sport that allows you to fly like a bird with no noisy engine to power the aircraft.
You will be a great pilot and meet many people with like interests!

Vocabulary Assignment
aero tow hook – The aerotow hook (nose hook) is located in front of the nose
wheel used for launching glider. Another plan uses it to tow the glider to the air.
canopy – clear cover for pilots compartment
elevator – changes the pitch of the glider by making the nose go up or down.
Rudder – control near the back of the glider that makes it turn from left to right
Ailerons – controls on the wings of the glider that make it roll
Stabilizer – like the fins on a fish they attach to the tail to keep glider going straight
Fuselage – the body of the glider
perspex surface – acrylic substitute for class like in the canopy

Great job on the vocabulary Donna!
This is a good start to understanding the physics of flight. WE will slowly learn more about the physics of flight, then we will learn about the aircraft.

hi my friend
Know the meaning of this terms are interesting to know you student must have good background of knowing all these terms like Aero tow . when i decided to know these terms is seem hook, canopy, elevator, rudder, ailerons, stabilizer, fuselage, perspex surface, Cantilever, monocoque structure, trimming device, control linkages,C.G. hook,Follow .Choosing Video presentations ,readings diagrams and F2F hands on is good idea to make your student interesting to know more about your course and make your student feel confident about your course material when you decided to use the Chico State rubric to clarify the way to evaluate your course was material and keep tracking with everything on your course is cool, an to know the name of the parts was great experience that i would like to char it with my friend . i like to fly one day with you my friend , i will try to do my best to know these terms
1. aero tow hook – The aero to hook (nose hook) is on front of the nose of airplane
elevator – changes the pitch of the glider by making the nose go up or down.
Rudder –it is section to move the air plain from left to right
Fuselage – the body of the body of airplane
This some words i learnd i am proud of myself wow
Thank you
Hi Amal!
I’m happy to have you here in my class and taking part in this discussion. You did well on the terms – you have now taken the first step to soaring like a bird.
Gliding is good you will meet lots of new and wonderful people.
Welcome!
